Big Spring Creek

Big Spring Creek has been transforming into a more wild trout stream ever since the hatchery operations were closed, making it an exciting destination for anglers. The catch-and-release, fly fishing-only stretch spans 1.1 miles, starting just 100 feet downstream of the iconic Big Spring and continuing down to the Nealy Road Bridge. This area remains a prime location for anglers looking for wild fish in a beautiful, pristine setting.

Beyond the catch-and-release section, the creek’s waters are open and regulated, and trout can now be found downstream of what was once known as the "ditch." The stream is on the rebound, with a healthy population of stream-bred rainbows and brown trout. The brook trout population is also recovering, with more fish showing up in the waters, offering an additional challenge for anglers seeking a variety of species.

Big Spring Creek is becoming a must-fish location, with a growing abundance of wild trout in its waters and a revitalized ecosystem that promises plenty of exciting opportunities for those willing to explore both the catch-and-release stretch and the open water below.
