Yellow Breeches Creek
Famous for its pristine waters and exceptional fishing, Yellow Breeches Creek is a world-renowned limestone stream that begins on South Mountain in Michaux State Forest, located in Cumberland Valley near Walnut Bottom. From its headwaters, the creek meanders through a mix of farmland, forests, and suburban areas, eventually flowing into the Susquehanna River near New Cumberland. The main stem of Yellow Breeches spans 49 miles, with its middle stretch reaching up to 60 feet in width.
The creek’s most popular section for anglers is a one-mile, catch-and-release stretch running through Allenberry in Boiling Springs. This section is well-known for its stunning beauty and excellent fishing opportunities. As a "Pennsylvania Scenic River," Yellow Breeches is known for its rich biodiversity and never has a shortage of trout—whether wild or stocked. The mix of wild trout and regular stockings ensures that anglers can expect a productive day on the water, with abundant opportunities for both beginner and experienced fly fishers alike.
